Russia Invites Indonesia to Eurasian Film Awards, Winners to Receive Real Diamonds

Liputan08.com, JAKARTA – The Embassy of the Russian Federatioin Jakarta held a press conference on Wednesday to introduce the Open Eurasian Film Award “Diamond Butterfly”, an international film awards program initiated by Russia. During the event, Russia officially invited Indonesian filmmakers to participate in the 2026 edition of the awards, which will be held in Moscow.

According to the Russian Embassy, the Diamond Butterfly is more than just a film award. It is designed as a platform to strengthen cultural cooperation and bring together filmmakers from across Eurasia and beyond.

The award was established by the Russian Ministry of Culture in cooperation with the Russian Cultural Foundation. The initiative is led by renowned Russian filmmaker and academic Nikita Mikhalkov.

Indonesia Encouraged to Participate

During the press conference, the organizers emphasized that the new season of the Diamond Butterfly offers Indonesian filmmakers an opportunity to showcase their work internationally, expand professional networks, exchange creative experiences, and establish collaborations with filmmakers from different countries.

The organizers expressed hope that Indonesia’s participation would further strengthen cultural ties between the two nations through cinema.

First Awards Ceremony Held in Moscow

The inaugural Diamond Butterfly Awards ceremony took place in Moscow on November 27, 2025.

According to the organizers, the first edition attracted approximately 640 film submissions from 17 countries competing in various award categories.

More Than Just a Trophy

One of the event’s unique attractions is its prizes.

The Diamond Butterfly trophy was designed by renowned Russian artist Yuri Kuper.

In addition to the trophy, winners of the main category receive a genuine Yakut diamond valued at approximately US$1,000.

Recipients of the Outstanding Contribution to Cinema award are presented with a Yakut diamond worth around US$25,000 in recognition of their outstanding dedication to the film industry.

Indonesia Has Already Taken Part

The Russian Embassy also noted that Indonesia has already participated in Diamond Butterfly activities.

At the previous edition, Indonesian filmmaker Naya Anindita was nominated in the Best Composer category.

Indonesian representatives also joined the international creative program “Creativity Unites,” organized by the Russian Cultural Foundation in cooperation with the Nikita Mikhalkov Academy.

The program brought together participants from various countries for workshops, discussions, and collaborative short-film productions with Russian filmmakers.

Best Non-Eurasian Film: All We Imagine As Light (India)

Best Screenplay: At the Bench (Kyrgyzstan)

Best Music: Hovhannes Khoshabyan (Melis)

Best Production Designer: Melis

Best Cinematography: Blask, Red, Yellow

Best Actor: Aleksandr Adabashyan (Two People in One Life and a Dog)

Best Actress: Svetlana Kryuchkova (Two People in One Life and a Dog)

Best Director: Goran Radovanovic (The Halting Problem)

Outstanding Contribution to Cinema: Nikita Mikhalkov

Best Film: Upstream (China)

Closing the press conference, the Russian Embassy expressed its hope that more Indonesian filmmakers would participate in the Open Eurasian Film Award “Diamond Butterfly” 2026, further strengthening cultural relations between Indonesia and Russia through the art of cinema.
